Meeting with Hon. Chris Rwakasisi.

Confirmed speaker for the 7th NPB Tanzania: Hon. Chris Rwakasisi on 7th November 2026 in Dodoma at the Parliament Grounds

Nationality: Ugandan

Political affiliation: Formerly Uganda People’s Congress (UPC); later reconciled with President Yoweri Museveni’s NRM government

Former position: Minister of State for Security under President Milton Obote’s second government, 1980–1985

Current position: Presidential Adviser on Special Duties

After Milton Obote’s government was overthrown in 1985, Rwakasisi was arrested and subsequently convicted of kidnapping charges. He was sentenced to death in 1988 and spent approximately 24 years on death row at Luzira Maximum Security Prison. He consistently maintained his innocence.

President Yoweri Museveni granted him an unconditional pardon in January 2009. After his release, the two former political adversaries reconciled, and Rwakasisi became a presidential adviser. His life story is now frequently presented as a testimony worldwide.
